Weather Report was a pioneering American jazz fusion band active from 1970 to 1986. Founded by keyboardist Joe Zawinul, saxophonist Wayne Shorter, and bassist Miroslav Vitouš, the group was known for its innovative blend of jazz, funk, and world music elements. Throughout its history, Weather Report featured acclaimed musicians such as Jaco Pastorius, Alphonso Johnson, Victor Bailey, Chester Thompson, Peter Erskine, Airto Moreira, and Alex Acuña. Starting as an experimental, free-form ensemble, the band evolved to embrace a more rhythmic and groove-oriented sound, highlighted by advanced synthesizer work and bold improvisation. Weather Report won multiple awards and is regarded as one of the most influential jazz fusion bands, alongside groups like Mahavishnu Orchestra and Return to Forever.
