Unknown Mortal Orchestra is a psychedelic rock group formed in Auckland, New Zealand, and now based in Portland, Oregon. Led by Ruban Nielson, with his brother Kody Nielson and bassist Jacob Portrait, the band began as Ruban’s solo project in 2009. Their debut album arrived in 2011 on Fat Possum Records, blending lo-fi rock with experimental and soulful sounds.
