Testament is an influential American thrash metal band from Berkeley, California, formed in 1983 originally as Legacy. Known for their aggressive sound and technical musicianship, Testament helped define the second wave of thrash metal in the late 1980s. The band's current lineup features founding guitarist Eric Peterson, longtime vocalist Chuck Billy, guitarist Alex Skolnick, bassist Steve Di Giorgio, and drummer Chris Dovas. Testament's early albums, including The Legacy, The New Order, and Practice What You Preach, established them as one of thrash metal's most important acts, with several records making the Billboard 200. The group has seen numerous lineup changes over the years, but Peterson and Billy have played on every studio album. Renowned for their intense live shows and consistent output, Testament has released thirteen studio albums, along with several live and compilation records. They are considered key figures among Bay Area thrash bands and have sold over fourteen million albums worldwide. After enduring health challenges and lineup shifts, Testament experienced a resurgence with albums like The Formation of Damnation, Dark Roots of Earth, Brotherhood of the Snake, and Titans of Creation.
