Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark, known as OMD, are an English electronic music group formed in 1978 in Meols, Merseyside by Andy McCluskey and Paul Humphreys. Pioneers of synth-pop, OMD are recognized for blending experimental electronic sounds with catchy pop melodies, helping to define the genre in the UK and influencing a wave of electronic artists. Their early hits like Enola Gay and their critically acclaimed album Architecture and Morality cemented their place in 1980s music history. The band enjoyed continued success with singles such as If You Leave, which featured in the film Pretty in Pink. After several lineup changes and a period of hiatus, OMD reformed in 2006 and returned to their experimental roots. With over 40 million records sold worldwide and a legacy as one of the most important synth-pop acts, OMD remain influential figures in electronic music.
