Howlin' Wolf

Howlin' Wolf

Howlin' Wolf, born Chester Arthur Burnett in 1910 in Mississippi, was a groundbreaking American blues singer, guitarist, and harmonica player. He played a key role in transforming Delta blues into the electric Chicago blues sound and recorded influential blues, rhythm and blues, rock and roll, and psychedelic rock over a forty-year career. After early years performing in the Deep South, he began recording in Memphis and soon signed with Chess Records in Chicago, where classics like "Moanin' at Midnight," "Smokestack Lightning," and "Spoonful" helped define his legacy. Known for his powerful voice and commanding stage presence, Howlin' Wolf became a central figure in the blues revival of the 1960s. His music influenced generations of musicians, and he was posthumously inducted into both the Blues Hall of Fame and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Songs like "Little Red Rooster" and "Smokestack Lightning" remain enduring blues standards.
