Genesis

Genesis

Genesis is an English rock band formed in 1967 at Charterhouse School in Surrey. Known for their influential role in progressive rock during the 1970s, the band's best-known and most successful lineup featured Tony Banks, Mike Rutherford, and Phil Collins. Early members included Peter Gabriel, Steve Hackett, Anthony Phillips, and Chris Stewart. Starting with their debut album From Genesis to Revelation, Genesis quickly shifted from pop to progressive rock with releases like Trespass and Nursery Cryme. Their live performances became famous for Peter Gabriel's theatrical stage presence. Albums such as Foxtrot, Selling England by the Pound, and the concept-driven The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway established their reputation. After Gabriel and Hackett departed, Phil Collins became lead singer, and the band evolved toward a more pop-oriented sound in the 1980s, producing major hits like Follow You Follow Me and albums such as Duke, Abacab, and Invisible Touch. Genesis continued to find success before disbanding in the late 1990s. Banks, Rutherford, and Collins have reunited for several tours since. Genesis has sold over one hundred million albums worldwide and received numerous awards, including induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2010. Their legacy includes a vast discography, iconic live shows, and a lasting influence on rock music.
