Duran Duran are an English pop rock band formed in Birmingham in 1978. Originally started by Stephen Duffy, Nick Rhodes, and John Taylor, the group's classic lineup settled in 1980 with Simon Le Bon as vocalist, Andy Taylor on guitar, John Taylor on bass, Nick Rhodes on keyboards, and Roger Taylor on drums.
Emerging from the New Romantic scene, Duran Duran became famous as pioneers of the music video and played a leading role in the MTV-driven Second British Invasion of the 1980s. Their early hits like Girls on Film and the worldwide success of their album Rio made them global superstars, further boosted by iconic music videos for songs such as Hungry Like the Wolf and Rio. In 1985, they topped the US charts with A View to a Kill, the theme for the James Bond film of the same name.
The band experienced lineup changes over the years, but enjoyed resurgent success with hits like Ordinary World and Come Undone in the 1990s, and a successful reunion of the original members in the 2000s. Duran Duran have sold over one hundred million records worldwide, achieving numerous top forty singles in both the UK and US.
They have been honored with several major awards, including two Brit Awards, two Grammy Awards, and a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. In 2022, they were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. The band's most recent album, Danse Macabre, was released in 2023.
