The group features Boy George on vocals, Roy Hay on guitar and keyboards, Mikey Craig on bass, and previously included Jon Moss on drums. Rising from the New Romantic scene, Culture Club became famous for their blend of new wave with soul, pop, reggae, and other styles. Their unique sound and Boy George’s androgynous image made them international icons.
The band achieved worldwide success with hits like Do You Really Want to Hurt Me, Karma Chameleon, Time Clock of the Heart, Church of the Poison Mind, and I'll Tumble 4 Ya. They scored twelve UK top 40 singles, including two number ones, and sold over 50 million records globally. The album Colour by Numbers sold more than 10 million copies and is considered one of the best albums of the 1980s.
Culture Club was a key part of the Second British Invasion in the United States, fueled by MTV’s popularity. Their crossover appeal earned them numerous awards, including Brit Awards, a Grammy, and several nominations for MTV Video Music and American Music Awards. Their influence on pop culture and music continues to be recognized today.
