The Residents are an American art collective and avant-garde rock band known for their experimental music and multimedia projects. Since their 1974 debut, they have released over 60 albums and produced a wide range of films, videos, and interactive works, including pioneering ventures into CD-ROM art. Famous for their secrecy, the group members have performed anonymously in elaborate costumes, most notably giant eyeball masks with top hats. Over their long career, The Residents have toured globally, founded the influential Ralph Records label, and received acclaim for their innovative approach to music and visual art. In 2017, Hardy Fox publicly identified himself as a founding member and primary composer before his passing in 2018.
