Faces are an English rock band formed in London in 1969 by the remaining members of Small Faces after Steve Marriott’s departure, joined by Rod Stewart and Ronnie Wood from the Jeff Beck Group. Known for their energetic blend of rock, rhythm and blues, and their raucous live shows, Faces gained fame in the early seventies with Rod Stewart’s distinctive vocals, Ronnie Wood’s guitar work, and a collaborative songwriting approach.
Although Stewart pursued a successful solo career at the same time, with Faces members contributing to his albums, the band released four studio albums, including the widely acclaimed A Nod Is As Good As a Wink... to a Blind Horse, which featured their hit "Stay with Me." Lineup changes and internal tensions, especially surrounding Stewart’s dual role, led to bassist Ronnie Lane’s departure in 1973 and eventually the band's split in 1975.
Members went on to prominent careers: Stewart as a solo artist, Wood joining The Rolling Stones, and Kenney Jones becoming drummer for The Who. Faces reformed for select reunions over the years and, alongside Small Faces, were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2012. In recent years, surviving members have occasionally reunited, continuing the band’s enduring legacy in British rock history.
