Porcupine Tree is an English rock band founded by Steven Wilson in 1987. Originally a solo project, it soon grew into a full band with the addition of Richard Barbieri, Colin Edwin, and Chris Maitland, later joined by Gavin Harrison. Over more than two decades, Porcupine Tree became known for their innovative mix of progressive rock, psychedelic, and alternative sounds, steadily building a devoted cult following while staying outside the mainstream. Their style evolved through the years, from experimental and space rock roots to a heavier progressive metal influence. After a lengthy hiatus following their 2009 album The Incident, Wilson, Barbieri, and Harrison reunited and released Closure/Continuation in 2022, marking a celebrated return. Porcupine Tree is frequently cited as a significant and influential band in modern progressive music.
