Paco de Lucía

Paco de Lucía

Paco de Lucía, born Francisco Sánchez Gómez in 1947, was a groundbreaking Spanish flamenco guitarist, composer, and producer. He is widely regarded as one of the greatest figures in flamenco history, celebrated for his technical mastery and innovative approach. De Lucía played a key role in shaping the new flamenco style by blending traditional elements with jazz and classical influences, expanding the possibilities of the genre. He was known for his lightning-fast fingerstyle runs and dynamic contrasts in his playing. His influential partnership with singer Camarón de la Isla produced several landmark albums in the 1970s, and his solo pieces such as "Entre dos aguas", "Río Ancho", and "La Barrosa" remain iconic. De Lucía collaborated with international artists like John McLaughlin, Al Di Meola, Larry Coryell, and Chick Corea, helping bring flamenco to a global audience. Later in his career, he formed the Paco de Lucía Sextet and performed at major venues and festivals in Europe. After 2004, he substantially reduced public performances until his death in 2014, leaving a lasting legacy as one of flamenco’s most influential and innovative artists.
