Marika Gombitová, born on 12 September 1956, is a renowned Slovak singer-songwriter and musician. Rising to fame as the lead vocalist of the band Modus, she soon embarked on a solo career, making a significant impact with her 1979 debut album Dievča do dažďa and the iconic single Vyznanie, which won major awards and became a classic in Slovak music.
Despite a serious car accident in 1980 that left her using a wheelchair, Gombitová continued to release acclaimed albums throughout the 1980s such as Slnečný kalendár, Mince na dne fontán, and №5, showcasing her versatility in pop rock and electronic music. Her later works, including Voľné miesto v srdci and Ateliér duše, maintained her popularity and radio presence.
Regarded as one of the most influential Slovak artists, Gombitová has received numerous awards and was inducted into the ZAI Hall of Fame. Often called the Songstress of the 20th Century, her music remains celebrated and widely played, inspiring generations of musicians in Slovakia.
