Father John Misty is the stage name of American musician Joshua Michael Tillman, born in 1981. He is recognized for his sharp, satirical lyrics and theatrical live performances. Starting his career in Seattle as J. Tillman in the early 2000s, he released several folk-influenced albums before joining Fleet Foxes as their drummer, contributing to the acclaimed Helplessness Blues. After leaving the band, he reemerged as Father John Misty, debuting in 2012 with Fear Fun, an album that marked a shift toward indie rock and witty, self-aware songwriting. His subsequent albums, including I Love You, Honeybear and Pure Comedy, further established his reputation for blending humor with commentary on love, society, and culture. Aside from his solo work, he has performed with a variety of bands and contributed as a songwriter and producer for major artists such as Beyoncé, Lady Gaga, Lana Del Rey, and Post Malone.
